John Bankston's recent show of new work was reviewed by Sharon Mizota in the LA Times on October 17th. Click link to read the review. His paintings will be featured in New American Painting #109 that was curated by Janet Bishop of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Lisa Solomon recently released a new book entitled hand/made that was published by Miel. The 72 page book contains several color images with catalog essays by Eireann Lorsung and Marshall Astor, a written biography by JoAnne Northrup and an interview by Carol Rowntree Jones
Hung Liu's retrospective Summoning Ghosts: The Art of Hung Liu was favorably reviewed by Kenneth Baker in the San Francisco Chronicle on March, 15th on the eve of the show's opening at the Oakland Museum of California. Click link to read the review.
LECTURES, RESIDENCIES AND AWARDS:
Frank Ryan is currently doing an artist residency at Chalk Hill Artist Residency in Sonoma County in Northern California.
Brendan Lott and John Jurayj have received a prestigious Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant consisting of a cash prize. The Pollack-Krasner Foundation's duel criteria for grants are recognizable artistic merit and demonstrable financial need, whether professional, personal or both. The Foundation's mission is to aid, internationally, those individuals who have worked as professional artists over a significant period of time.
John Bankston is included in the highly anticipated inaugural California-Pacific Triennial at the Orange County Musuem of Art on view through November 17th. Please click link for further information.
Robb Putnam has a large format sculpture entitled Stray on view at the Palm Springs Art Museum as a new acquisition to the collection.
Dean Monogenis is included in Bronx Calling: The Second AIM Biennial at the Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York through September 8th. Please cllick link for more information. His work is also featured in the show Home: Shelter and Habitat in Contemporary Art at the Bedford Gallery in Walnut Creek, CA through November 17th. Please click link for further information.
Freddy Chandra completed a site-specific commissioned artwork for the newly opened Neiman Marcus department store in Walnut Creek, CA. The commission is Chandra's first multi-panel painting made specifically for a corner location. Chandra also recently completed a site-specific commission for the new US Embassy in Surabaya, Indonesia.
Cynthia Ona Innis has been awarded a public arts commission by the County of Alameda in Northern California. Selective works by Innis have also been acquired for a new public library in Lafayette, CA and a new US Embassy in Riga, Latvia.
Hung Liu has been awarded a public arts commission at the International Terminal in the San Francisco International Airport. The commission was completed and installed in April 2008. Click link for images.

Hung Liu and Rebeca Bollinger have been awarded public commissions at the new Oakland International Airport terminal. Liu will present a 160 foot glass panel wall along a pathway with etched imagery of the migration of birds incorporated with regional weather patterns of the Bay Area. Click link for images. Bollinger will combine digital imagery taken in interior and exterior environments throughout the Bay Area on several monitors that will be displayed as a multi channel media wall.
